This simple chocolate cake is rich, soft, and full of buttery chocolate flavour. It is not an overly tall or fancy cake, but it is easy to make at home and perfect for a family treat. Dust it with powdered sugar / icing sugar and serve with cream if you like.
• 180 g all-purpose flour / self-raising flour
• 70 g unsweetened cocoa powder
• 180 g sugar
• 200 ml milk
• 2 eggs
• 120 g butter, melted
• 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
• 1–2 teaspoons baking powder
• Powdered sugar / icing sugar, for dusting
• Heavy cream / double cream, optional, for serving
Note:If using self-raising flour, add 1 teaspoon baking powder.If using all-purpose flour, add 2 teaspoons baking powder.

Crack the eggs into a mixing bowl. Add the sugar and mix well until the eggs and sugar are combined.

Pour in the milk and add the vanilla extract. Mix gently until the liquid ingredients are smooth.

Add the flour, cocoa powder, and baking powder to the bowl. Pour in the melted butter and mix everything together until the batter becomes smooth and chocolatey.

Pour the chocolate batter into a cake tin. Bake at 180°C / 350°F for about 40 minutes, or until the cake is set and a skewer comes out clean.

Let the cake cool and rest for a while. Dust the top with powdered sugar / icing sugar, and serve with heavy cream / double cream if you like.
